This month we'll be exploring Google Apps and what it means for small and large nonprofits alike, and discuss the benefits and challenges to adoption! (What do you mean, "free"?)

One of the major challenges nonprofits face when growing their organization is deciding upon a communications infrastructure. This is an easy enough matter in the for-profit world where expertise can be outsourced, but in the nonprofit world technology can be a real hang up when it's -supposed- to be an enabler.

Fortunately, effective group communications and collaboration software is becoming cheaper, easier, web based, and sometimes free! Google is spearheading this trend through it's Google Apps offering which is available to nonprofits at no cost. Through this program, organizations have access to email, group calendaring, collaborative word processing and spreadsheets, and soon powerpoint presentations and wiki software! This is the type of value that is ordinarily offered to nonprofits for thousands of dollars.

By not having to worry about the complexity and cost of their technology infrastructure, nonprofits can focus on what they do best!
