Introduction

I'm Principal of CommuniShare Consulting (partners with Bob Leming). I've been facilitating empowerment via information and social capital for nearly 30 years -- in both offline and online environments. (Technology follows desired social structure.)

What cool examples of technology for social change have you encountered?

Among other things, I really like user tagging and folksonomies. Coming from a library/infosci background, I was steeped for years in the world of controlled vocabularies, and think the relative advantages of each tool has yet to be fully realized.

Have you used technology for social change? If not, do you have plans/ideas/dreams about how you want to use it?

I developed CommuniShare (www.communishare.org) in 2002 as a tool for building social capital within EXISTING communities. I have many ideas for other empowering social tools (and am open to technical and business partners to bring to fruition).

Your organization or cause -- what are you passionate about?

CommuniShare Consulting helps organizations more effectively collaborate. My deepest personal passion is in helping people create "connections of meaning". I look at this from the perspective of building social capital; with or without high tech.

What Seth Horwitz is saying about this Meetup Group

The intersection of Web 2.0 and social change is a large and dynamic space. Getting together with people at different levels of involvement and working from diverse perspectives (activists, techies, funders, visionaries, career changers?) can only stimulate more successful work in this area.

You must be signed in to post a Greeting.
